The sample space $\Omega$ describes a set of possible outcomes. All elements of $\Omega$ must fulfill 3 criteria: - *Mutually exclusiveness:* Only 1 distinctive [[Events|Event]] can happen. - *Collective exhaustiveness:* All events together describe all possibilities. - *Right granularity:* Events are mutually exclusive in all relevant dimensions (e.g. it does not matter if it rained or not during a coin flip experiment). ![[sample-space.png]]
